Futon Cover Returns, Policies, Sizes, Measuring, FAQ's, and ETA's

Returns are time consuming, and expensive.  You can avoid having to return something by ordering swatches, or samples of the fabrics that you are interested in.   If you do this. Next, you read all the following information below and you'll see how to measure your futon mattress, so that your cover will fit perfectly. If you take a little extra time, and follow these 2 steps, you'll get the most current swatches, from the current dye lots, and there will be almost no chance that you won't like the cover you order, or that it won't fit properly, and you won't even have to think about returning anything.  

We will take almost any Futon Cover back, and we have 2 ways we handle the exchange or refund.
 
We will accept Returns for Immediate Refunds or Exchanges on any Full Size Cover with a standard 6" Depth as long as it can be sold as Brand New.
 
The reason for this is quite simple.  90% of all the covers we sell, are full size covers with a 6" Depth, which will fit 6" to 8" Futon Mattresses.
 
If there is any sign of use, soil, hair, fragrances, smoke, or odors, it will not be accepted at all, and the customer will will have to pay for the cover to be returned, if wanted.  Otherwise we will attempt to clean the cover, and will donate it. 
 
Of course, if there is a verified error on our, or our manufacturers part, we will repair or replace the cover at absolutely no cost to you.
 
With all returns, the customer will need to pay all shipping, handling, and restocking charges.  These normally don't exceed 20% of the sale price of the cover.  It may be more with a $39 cover. 

Returns on Custom orders, Custom Depths, Pillows, Duvets, Fabric by the Yard, or Covers that are not Full Size will be handled in this way.

As above, we can avoid this 99.9% of the time if you call us with your sizes, and let us describe the fabrics you are looking at, or by ordering Free, or Paid Samples.
 
All covers with other than a standard 6" depth, in any size, even full, along with chairs, twins, loveseats, kings, pillows, fabric by the yard, or any other custom size is still returnable, but we will not give an immediate Cash Refund or Exchange.
 
We will list them on our site, and when they sell, we will then issue a refund or credit.
 
Here's a bit of good news if this happens to you.  We will also sell you a replacement cover, at our wholesale cost, plus shipping.  This should help to offset any loss from the other cover or item.
 
With any return, the customer will have to pay for all shipping, handling, and restocking charges.  These normally do not exceed 20% of the sales price of the cover.  With these types of returns, the customer will also have to pay additional shipping charges, and credit card fees when the item sells.
 
Of course, If there is a verified problem or a defect on our, or our manufacturers part, it will be corrected for no charge, but the customized order cannot be cancelled.  If there is a problem due to inaccurate measurements or sizes given by the customer, the customer will be responsible for extra charges for shipping, and corrections.

Futon Cover Facts & General Information

Most of our Covers are Made in America.  Our Online fabrics are shown as they would be made for a Bi-Fold Futon, which is a futon that folds 1 time, along the length of the futon mattress when in a sofa position.  If you have a Loveseat, A-Frame or Tri-Fold futon, please let us know before you order.  The direction of the print may need to be rotated.  If you have any questions about this, please call us, or visit our Futon Frame Lesson Page for more info, and give us a call.

Ordering a Futon Cover is fairly simple.  If you don't read anything else, at least read this.  About 75% of all Queen Covers ordered are returned for a full size covers.  This is so common that we think that people are mislead when buying a futon, and told that they are buying a queen when they are actually buying a full.  If you order a queen cover from us, you'll receive a warning email from us so that we can save you the time and cost of having to return an item.

Please Measure your Mattress before ordering and you might save yourself time and money especially if you are sure you need a queen cover.

With free shipping and processing, samples take about a week to arrive, and covers take 1 to 2 weeks to arrive.  Custom orders can take 2 to 4 weeks to arrive.  You can get your sample or covers faster if you are willing to pay more.  E-mail us and tell us how soon you need the item, and we'll get you a quote.

Mattress Measuring Details & Futon Cover Depths

All Standard covers on our site are made to fit a 6" to 8" futon mattress.  If your mattress is thicker or thinner, you may need to custom order your cover.  Please read the following information and Call or E-mail us for advice.  Click here to order swatches , for most of the covers on our site.

We receive several calls from customers that order a futon cover "To Fit", a 9" Mattress, because they receive a cover that says, "7 Inch Depth".  Or, they might have ordered a cover "To Fit" a 5" mattress, when the cover arrives and says, "4 Inch Depth".  Here is an explanation why.

Futon covers are normally ordered with a depth of 2 inches less than the thickness of the futon mattress.
This is because when the futon mattress is flat, a cover is at it's tightest.  If your cover is for Bed Use Only, please let us know, as we would recommend the cover to be ordered with the same depth as the thickness of the mattress.  If your cover is for a Folding Futon Sofa, that makes a bed, when it's folded into a sofa position, the bend creates slack in the cover.  So, by ordering covers a little on the tight side, they will fit best, and look perfect, when your futon is in the sofa position.
 
There are some exceptions to this rule and those are some Innerspring Futons, or some Super Soft, or Super Firm Futons.  Call us if you aren't sure what to do, and we'll be glad to help you select the size you need.  Most covers can be customized to fit any futon mattress, no matter how thick, or what the exact size is.
 
This is the best way to measure your futon mattress.  If your mattress is squared on the edges, like the blue picture, just measure the black lines for the length, width, and depth.  If your futon mattress is more rounded on the edges, like the pink picture, measure the black lines as shown.  This is a little harder to measure because you have to use an imaginary line where the thickest part of the futon mattress is.  Remember though, a futon mattress is not a solid block of wood.  If you are off by an inch or so, the cover will still fit, and will look fine.  If you are extremely particular about the fit of your cover, then by all means, please give us a call so that we can help you to get the perfect fit.

Most Common Questions and our Policies

1.  How do I measure my Futon Mattress?
There are a lot of ways to measure a futon mattress, but this is the most simple way to explain it.  Pretend that you are going to put your futon mattress, flat, in a box to ship it.  You don't want the mattress to flop around, and you don't want to squish it.  You want it to fit snug, with no slack.  Then just measure the length, width, and depth of the box, and that's it.

2.  What is Piping, or Welting?
Piping or welting is a bead of the same, or a coordinating fabric that goes around the edges of the futon cover, and gives it a more finished or formal look.  It is not needed, and is expensive, but is does look very nice.

3.  How much are your covers?
Our futon covers range from $39.00 in full sizes, to between $69.00 and $129.00 for most designer prints. Some premium prints are higher. Queen sizes are usually $10 to $20 more.

4.  How are futon covers cleaned?
Today's futon covers are made with all types of fabrics, and the cleaning instructions are listed online on each cover.  Most covers are either Dry Clean Only, or Cold Wash, Line Dry to prevent shrinking and fading.
We're not going to recommend it, but over the years, in our store, when kids damaged dry clean only futon covers on display, we'd take them home and wash them by hand in the sink, in Woolite, or we'd even throw them in the washer on gentle, and cold, and then lay them flat to dry.  We only shrunk 1 in about 20 years.  Again, you should only follow the directions on the cover, or on our website.  If you wash a cover and it's damaged, we will not be responsible, just like if you washed a Dry Clean Only article of clothing, the manufacturer would not replace it under warranty.

5.  What is your Standard Return Policy on Futon Covers?
Before we think about returning something, let's try to get it right the first time, so that neither of us has to loose anything.  You may order, small $1.00 or larger $3.95 samples of most of our fabrics.  We'd also prefer if every customer called us or emailed us, so that we could discuss size issues, and colors and textures of a given fabric or fabrics.  If everyone did this, it would almost completely eliminate any returns.
 
Our return policy on our futon covers, for a Cash Refund, or Exchange, is this.  We will accept any Full Size Cover with a standard 6" Depth as long as it can be sold as Brand New.

As above, we can avoid this 99.9% of the time if you call us with your sizes, and let us describe the fabrics you are looking at, or by ordering fabric samples.

7.  Do you send swatches?
You can order small 1.00 swatches, or larger $3.95 swatches.  Click Here to order Swatches.  Swatches are the only way to know exactly what the fabric looks, and feels like. We don't send swatches of our economy covers, because the dye lots are always different, and chances are the cover you order, will be slightly different than the swatch. If you call us with questions about a fabric, we will pull the swatch, and describe the colors, texture, feel, and cleaning care of the fabric to you.

8.  What is the guarantee on Futon covers?
If there is a problem or a defect, on our part, or the manufacturers part, upon receipt, it will be corrected for no charge.  Although this may cause a delay, and inconvenience, the order can not be cancelled.  If there is a problem due to inaccurate measurements or sizes given by the customer, the customer will be responsible for extra charges for shipping, and corrections. Please order a swatch before ordering any cover or custom item, or at least call us and have us describe the colors and textures of the fabric, as we see it.
 
Our futon covers are guaranteed to be free of defects for between 1 year and Lifetime, depending on the manufacturer, and the fabric. This excludes commercial use, misuse, abuse, and improper care or use, and normal wear and tear.  Covers will be repaired or replaced at the option of the manufacturer, however the customer is responsible for shipping charges to and from, on returns, unless the item was defective upon receipt.

9.  How do I know the colors I see on my monitor will match the cover I order?
You should never depend on them matching exactly.  We spend a lot of time and effort to find the right type of light to take the pictures of the swatches you see. Much time has also been spent adjusting the colors prior to putting them on our site. 10.  Do your covers have the print on one side or on the front and back?
Most all covers are made with the same fabric on all sides, which is called All Over.  There are a few covers that are made with one print on the top, and a different fabric on the sides and back.  If this is the case, it will be specified on the product information page.  Covers can be made in many different ways for different prices.  These styles are shown below.

11.  Do your covers come with Zippers or Velcro?
All of our covers come with a full 3 sided zipper. This makes it much easier to put on, or take off your cover for cleaning or changing. Twin Sizes, Chairs, or Ottomans come with a one or 2 sided zipper.  Covers can be ordered with Velcro, or in a Fitted Sheet Style.  Call us to ask about this option if this is what you want.

12.  How are covers shipped, how much is shipping, and when will it arrive?
There is no extra charge for shipping covers via UPS, DHL, FedEx, or US mail, to the lower 48 states. There are exceptions. We won't ship Pillows, Bolsters, or Fabric Yardage for free, unless they are ordered with a cover. Most orders ship within 1 to 5 business days, and arrive in 1 to 2 weeks.  Custom sizes, or options, (like piping), take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive. Depending on your needs, it is possible depending on the cover and the manufacturer to get covers made quicker, and you can also add faster shipping options if needed.  We can ship most items to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, Canada, P.O. Boxes, APO's or FPO's, but there are normally extra shipping charges, so send an E-mail first with your address so we can get you a shipping quote.  Some of our manufacturers will not ship by US Mail.  They require that we ship FedEx or UPS so that items can be tracked, which can be much more expensive.  Please note that for International shipments we will get a shipping quote, however the customer is responsible for any extra costs for taxes, Tariffs, or Duties.

Futon Cover Construction Methods
Print All Over Cover
 

Print All Over - Just as it sounds, and the most common method of covers.  The print is on the top, edges, and bottom of the cover. With this type of cover, you can flip or rotate the futon mattress, and not have to turn the futon cover.

 
Window Panel Cover

 

Window Pane, or Window Panel - The print is only on the top, and doesn't cover the whole top. There is about a 10" border on each side, and the back, and edges are also the solid color. In this case, the fabric is only 54" wide, and the stripes needed to be vertical.

 
End Cap Cover

 

 

End Cap or Window Panel 2 Sides - This is like the Window Pane or Window Panel, but the print wraps all the way around the top, back, front and rear edges of the futon cover.

Print Top Cover

Print Top or Inlay - Here, the top side of the cover is the print, and the sides, and back are a coordinating fabric. This type can be flipped and all you would see is the Tan fabric. Then you could use pillows with the same print, for a nice change. Some manufacturers call this Inlay and others call it Print Top. Call for specific information about the cover that you are ordering.

 
Solid Back Cover
 

Solid Back or Inlay - Here's a tough one to photograph, but it's pretty easy to understand. The print is on the top, and edges, and there is a solid color on the back panel. It's just like the Print Top, except the solid fabric would be the top, and the print would be everywhere else. Some manufacturers call this Solid Back, and some call it Inlay. Call for specific information about the cover you are ordering.

A Frames or Love Seat Covers - Here's one final note. If you need a printed cover for a Love Seat, or an A-Frame type of futon, you need to specify that, or call us with your order. Depending on the direction of the print that you want, it may need to be made specially, or, for example, you could have sailboats, on their sides, when you put the cover on.
